conservation internships hawaii
Can you help me find some cool wildlife internships?

I’m a Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences bachelor’s degree student. My professors are really stressing the importance of internships in this field. I’m hoping you can help me find a conservation-related internship doing wildlife surveys or something of the sort. I’m kind of a bird freak so I’d like to do something like that, but it’s not necessary. I’d like to go somewhere exotic (well for a Minnesota person, exotic) like Hawaii, California, Arizona, Florida, etc etc. I’d be doing this during the summer of 2009. It would be awesome if room and board was provided with a stipend, but again, that’s not necessary either. Thanks so much for the help!

This is a great website for finding bird jobs/internships. Your best bet is to do this sort of work during the spring as this is breeding season and there will be LOTS of jobs offered then, and your chances of getting hired will be greater. This is the site I found all my seasonal bird jobs before finding a full time permanent position.

historic preservation properties
What kind of political system would you call this:?

a village of 355 inhabitants, 20 of which have together purchased half (3) of the historic buildings for preservation, etc.
This group forms the “town council”. They meet regularly and decide rules for the town dictatorally. Today I received a notice from them saying that my dog must be ATTACHED ON MY PROPERTY! of three acres. (he stays on my property on his own without being tied up and is the most gentle creature).
It seems several octogenarians on this council are anti-pets.

Authoritarian. But if you live in the US it is illegal to have a town council that is not elected..if they have the power to enact laws.

you can sue in state court to compell an election…but if they were elected and you didn’t vote…you know what to do in a few years.
