How to act when all alone?
I recently joined a division of the local arts council for young professionals. Tonight is the first event at a local museum. I will be going alone and have no idea if I will run into someone that I know. I haven’t been able to get anyone to go along with me. I am assuming that most people there will be in couples or with friends. What are some tips for being less akward by myself and still having a good time? Or should I just skip this event and go the other scheduled things which are all plays and performances? Thanks
Why do you assume everyone will be with someone?
Probably not.
You need to learn how to mingle.
Siddle up to a small group, or approach someone who’s alone.
If it’s a group, listen in on the conversation until you have a chance to participate. Don’t overdo or try to take over.
If it’s a person, ask them general questions and get them talking about themselves, then interject stuff about yourself.
After a bit, move on.
If you find more than one person on their own, and introduce them to each other, and then introduce another, you can get a little group going, and everyone will be deeply grateful.
