science museum stuff

What kinds of things have you enjoyed doing in West Palm Beach, FL?
My girlfriend and I are going to West Palm Beach, FL for a wedding in the beginning of August. We have a couple of ideas about what we will do while we are their: Rapids Water Park, kayaking, fireworks (they are illegal where we are now), the science museum in Ft. Lauderdale, a day or 2 excurision to orlando to see some Disney stuff (though we dont want to spend much time up there because our hotel is already paid for in Boca Raton-which is near West Palm Beach).
I used to live in West Palm Beach, but I know it has changed a great deal since I was there last and my girlfriend has only been there once..and this is our first vacation in an extremely long time. So I want to make sure we have a good time.
What kinds of things have you done down there, what ideas do you have that are specific to the area, and, if you live down there or know the area, what suggestions do you have for things we can do there that we cant do in Connecticut (which is just about everything)?
If you like to gamble there’s the Palm Beach Kennel Club (dog track), or you could go to the Coconut Creek Casino on Sample near Boca.
You could take her on the Palm Beach Princess (nice buffet for brunch or dinner) and sailing for about 5 hours and other entertainment is on the ship, too.
Of course you guys could go cruising in Palm Beach and look at the large mansions on the beach. If she likes to shop, take her to the Gardens Mall in Palm Beach Gardens.
Of course there’s the beach, and depending on your tastes in entertainment- there’s Rachel’s Steakhouse on 45th Street. Some couples like to go there for kicks. If you remember, it’s suppose to be a “classy” gentleman’s club. If you guys want a taste of something extraordinary.
Enjoy your stay in sunny West Palm Beach. Man, I’m home sick. I moved to Atlanta last year. Miss the sunshine! Have fun, though.

Strong Stuff: Herakles and His Labors $5.99 Herakles was one of the greatest of all Greek heroes, and his exploits have been celebrated in paintings, songs, poetry, and sculpture for thousands of years. Now it’s time for him to have his own children’s book, one devoted exclusively to his labors and adventures. Written by John Harris and illustrated by artist Gary Baseman, Strong Stuff tells the amazing stories of the Stymphalian Birds (defe… |

The Terracotta Warriors $3.00 The Terracotta Army of Qin Shihuangdi, the First Emperor of China, is one of the most spectacular and best-known finds in world archaeology. It was discovered by surprise in 1974 by peasants digging a well, an 8,000-man garrison in battle-ready formation, spread across four pits. Here were life-size warriors made over two thousand years ago from fired clay (originally brightly painted), carrying r… |

Stuff That Scares Your Pants Off!: The Science Museum Book of Scary Things (and Ways to Avoid Them) $5.31 In “Stuff That Scares Your Pants Off!”, Glenn Murphy shows us that it is OK to be scared and that there are very good reasons why we are able to feel fear. He looks closely at our most common fears, including natural disasters, predators, spiders, disease, needles, dentists, crashes, darkness, speaking in public, heights, ghosts and monsters, to show us how much of that fear is perhaps unnecessary… |
