Do men ask women out anymore? for the purpose of finding a girlfriend, not just a hook up?
I’m looking for a guy for a serious relationship and it seems that men are either in their growing up phase (early/mid twenties) or already in a relationship. I’m in Southern California. I don’t go to bars and night clubs b/c I know men want to hook up there. I do go to coffee shops, book stores, libraries, college, etc, but I haven’t found anyone who’s looking for a girlfriend, only a hookup.
Is this special for Los Angeles? Are there more men in other parts of the country who are actually looking for a serious girlfriend?
In the south, we date. I had this problem when I went to college where everyone on campus was from a different part of the counrty or a different country. In Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, etc….men ask girls on DATES. I kept these standards even while at college and surprisingly found that if a guy is truly interested, he will ask a girl out on a date. I think it also depends on the signals the girl is sending out. A guy wont ask a girl who is provocatively dressed and drunk every weekend on a date.

Schools almost out?? What are your kids doing?
School is almost out here in Los Angeles, what are your kids doing this summer? I have a 13 and 9 yr old and it seems this summer we have nothing to do, no ideas..we are stumped! Usually we have ideas, local park programs ect… But seems like the beach, aquarium, museums, movies, and the arcade are old now… Need some new (and not too expensive) programs or places to take them or send them… (preferably in San Gabriel area~ but will drive for a good event/place)
There are SO many awesome things to do here in the summer. I think we are super lucky to live here, actually.
I live on the Westside, so I don’t know how much of a hike these places are for you, but here are a few suggestions:
Santa Monica College for Kids:
http://santamonica.augusoft.net/index.cfm?fuseaction=1010
I’ve taken a few of their courses & loved them.
Brentwood Art Center
http://www.brentwoodart.com/classes_choose.html
Their classes are awesome. Even if your kids are total beginners, they’ll love the classes.
A lot of the LA Public libraries have reading groups for kids.
I used to LOVE them when I was younger.
http://www.lapl.org/kidspath/events/readingclub.html
The Beverly Hills Club has some really, really cool programs just for tweens & teens.
I’m sure there are summer programs out there, too. It’s a great time to learn a new instrument or language or sport. If you are religious, consider a vacation Bible school. I used to LOVE going to the ones at my church when I was younger.
On Thursday the LA Times has a weekend calendar & they almost always list plays and events that kids would like.
LA Weekly is also online & lists loads & loads of cool activities.
This site is awesome, too: losangeles.parenthood.com/
Be sure to let them have a little bit of time to just veg out. I’m 16 and am going straight from school to London to be with my family to a study abroad program to a mission trip to a vacation and then back here & I kind of want a week to just sleep till noon! I miss the days of just spending the summer in LA.
I hope you guys have an awesome summer.
