library science degree

Do you need to have a degree in Library Science to be a librarian?
what are the things you learn in Library Science and what can you do with that degree?
Generally “yes” and to be considered a true librarian to your colleagues, definately. The standard degree was the Masters in Library Science several years ago, then it became the Masters in Library and Information Science, and now several universities offer a Masters in Information Science with a library specialty.
Librarian who do not have masters include School Media Technicians who generally have some education, either a two year degree or a BA in Education and a teaching credential. Still, to people outside the library world, they’re still known as Librarians.
Also, many poor communities where community education is not a high priority, will have library branches managed by people without degrees. In Tacoma they have librarian teleconferencing at their branches, but most would agree that the library techs there are considered the librarians.
What do library students learn? Before the 50′s when Home Economics became something offered teen girls in High Schools, the study was called “Library Economics.” What we study is about the same thing it always was, though. Stretch your budget, get the best information the most rapidly with the least effort, effective marketing, personnel management, some practical experience through internships. Yes we study computers, but they are just tools. Carpenters don’t study hammers for the sake of inventing better hammers. They want to know which hammer would be best to drive this kind of nail.
Library students with a few years experience before or after getting a degree make fabulous executives, lawyers (with a JD), school curriculum developers, historians and writers, besides being even better librarians than they were before.

22-degree halo around the Moon Photo Mugs Halo around the Moon. This is the common 22-degree halo, so called as its diameter extends across 22 arc-degrees of the sky. It is caused by prismatic refraction through randomly-oriented hexagonal ice crystals in the atmosphere. Although all of the spectral colours are produced, only the reddish tint of the inner edge of the ring may usually be seen….. |

Could I get into Cornell University???
I am currently looking to transfer there from Western Connecticut State University, I’ve finished one year there with a GPA of 3.8, when I was in high school I had a 3.5 GPA with college prep. and honors classes, I graduated in 3.5 years; I volunteered about 200 hours at my local library, got an A in a summer course that I took at Yale, 3 years of work experience, plus I was treasurer of my college’s student government last semester. I’m an education major for high school english. Thanks for any help or any advice that you think could help me get in!
Also, my SAT I scores were 700 writing, 700 reading, and 650 math.
there are different undergrad schools at Cornell University and I would think your chances of getting into one as opposed to another are different. Hazarding a guess, your chances would be worst at the Engineering School and best at the Ag School.
Transfers are also problematical compared with initial admissions and coming from a school that might seem to some to be obscure is not helpful. Barack Obama managed to transfer to Columbia College from one of the Claremont Colleges but he might have had certain advantages.

Long Day’s Journey into Night $4.49 This work is interesting enough for its history. Completed in 1940, Long Day’s Journey Into Night is an autobiographical play Eugene O’Neill wrote that–because of the highly personal writing about his family–was not to be released until 25 years after his death, which occurred in 1953. But since O’Neill’s immediate family had died in the early 1920s, his wife allowed publication of the play… |

Where in the world can I find a job? I will go anywhere?
What areas of the world are currently hiring, and what sectors in these areas? Who actually has a NEED for employees? I will move anywhere in the world for work (REAL jobs, not working from home, online, for google, prostituting, and any other foul things people can come up with). I am a professional librarian with a Master’s degree, but at this point I would be willing to work anywhere.
And, as always, SPAMmers, you WILL be reported. Sad I have to say this everytime I post in this section.
i have heard that walmart is hiring.
here is my advice. Call places you know that fit your expertise. Ask them if they are hiring. You might get lucky.
You cal also call places near where you live and ask them if they are hiring

library sciences colleges

What colleges have good Library Science Masters programs?
Preferably, in southern Ohio or Northern West Virginia. Specifically, I wonder if Ohio University has one of these programs. But any college will do.
Kent State, University of Pittsburgh and University of Kentucky are the closest to that region. I’m not aware of the reputation of these schools and their graduates being a West coast person myself.
You can find accredited programs using the American Library Associations site:
http://www.ala.org/ala/educationcareers/education/accreditedprograms/directory/index.cfm
There is a diversity of programs which have accreditation. You will want to study each program Web site and visit the campus if at all possible. Talking with local librarians can help you to make a decision.
Guidelines for choosing a program are discussed on this page:
