preservation trades network

John Kerry and I finally agree on something, have I woken on a alternate plane of existence?
Kerry (D-Mass) has announced he’s partnering with Discovery to help end the illegal practice of “shark finning” and to help promote shark protection.
During “Shark Week” programming next week, Discovery will run public service announcements and encourage viewers, via an online campaign, to call their senators to support Kerry’s legislation, the Shark Preservation Act.
Shark finning is a practice where fishermen slice off a shark’s fin for use in shark fin soup.
“Huge demands on the foreign fin trade have fueled massive population declines and a serious disruption of our waters,” Kerry said in a statement.
“We need much stronger solutions to finally end this illicit trade, and current protections haven’t gotten the job done before.”
Shark Week, which airs every summer on Discovery, is a big ratings grabber for the cable network.
Good. I’m glad you two agree.

conservation law enforcement training

How much does it cost to go through basic law enforcement training in virginia?
I’ve been looking online at several places that offer courses, but none really show how much it will cost. I want to become a Virginia Conservation Officer eventually.
I understand your question. The problem is that what you are asking for is no longer offered in Virginia. It used to be, up until a few years ago. It is still legal, but none of the agencies do it. Thus, I can not give you a quote. (RRCJA used to charge appx. $4000.)
The problem was that you can not go through firearms training without an agency to sponsor you. Thus, you can not technically graduate from the academy. You would spend all that time and then end up with nothing.
However, there is another option. Look for agencies that allow reserve officers. (IE: Bowling Green in Caroline County, Tappahannock County, etc.) A reserve officer is a volunteer position. Most agencies will send you to the academy on their dime.
Good luck!
library volunteer policy

What can I do for community service?
I am a 13 year old. And I have tried volunteering on my library and the hospital, but there was a policy saying ages 16 up only. Is there any other place I can volunteer? And I want to volunteer outside of school and help the community.
For the USA: VolunteerMatch (http://www.volunteermatch.org), Idealist (http://www.idealist.org) and CraigsList (http://www.craigslist.com) all list volunteering opportunities with thousands of organizations. There’s also this government sponsored site (http://volunteer.gov/gov/) which provides volunteer positions through USA federal land agencies like Fish & Wildlife, Forest Service, National Parks, etc. Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site (http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/).

Is THIS on your christmas list?
The International Rhino Foundation in Yulee, Fla is auctioning on ebay four pieces of dung from endangered rhinos and will use the proceeds to fund conservation efforts.
The pieces come from four of the 5 types of rhinos; black, white, Indian and Sumatran. The Javan rhino is so rare no specimens could be collected.
Each piece is dried, mounted in a clear trophy case and marked with the type of rhino that produces it.
The auction ends Sunday, so get your bid in now! Bids are ranging from $122.50 to $500.
If you thought getting coal in your stocking was bad……..how bad do you have to be to get this?
It is an interesting way to raise funds for a good cause, but….don’t know if I want this on my wall…..
On the other hand, I have jewelry made from petrified dinosaur dung……..
Ooooo! No, thanks
