Saving Stuff

Can anyone tell me of some simple items that can be sold on the internet to generate extra money?

I sell Hot Wheels and McFarlane Figures on Ebay as a hobby, but they don’t always sell during dead times like after Christmas or when pay checks are spent. I was wondering if anyone knew of simple items to make or buy that do sell well, but don’t involve alot of overhead expenses. My ideas are quickly shot down and I am having a hard time coming up with new ones. I am not looking to get rich quick, just actually make money for the work I do. I am willing to work 10 hours a day at my job, and then come home just to box up Hot Wheels for a couple of hours and then go to the post office to mail them, if anything even sold. Days are long for me now, but I want an easier life for my wife and I later on. Help me out if you can! –Kris B.

JMU’s Mine Action Information Center Releases New Tool for Landmine Suvivors

Adaptive Technology Catalog: Tools for Survivors of Landmines and Explosive Remnants of War Available

Publication is Practical Resource for Disabled

(Harrisonburg, VA—October 27, 2008) Available now, the Adaptive Technology Catalog: Tools for Survivors of Landmines and Explosive Remnants of War provides information on a variety of low-cost, low-technology products that government, survivor assistance and other agencies can purchase to help the victims of landmines and other explosive remnants of war (ERW) get back to self-sufficient work. Focused primarily on serving people who have lost one or both arms, one or both legs, or have eyesight or hearing deficiencies as a result of injuries sustained in explosions or accidents, the Adaptive Technology Catalog is comprised of products that are generally priced under US$500. Low-technology requirements of the more than 300 products included allows for easy repair and replacement using locally available services and supplies.

The Adaptive Technology Catalog includes information on a range of practical tools for automotive repair; communication, computer and office work; mechanical tasks and construction; crafts, hobbies and recreation; farming and agriculture; and culinary applications. These products are designed to assist those victims who have been disabled and want to return to work, in addition to those individuals who desire to be trained in a new occupation. Included in the Catalog is an additional reference section with a number of useful books for organizations working directly with survivors.  

Purchases in the U.S. can be made directly from the Catalog sources. As a matter of cost effectiveness, however, product purchases outside the U.S. must be made by organizations that provide assistance to the disabled population, not the individual in need of the tool. Most manufacturers and distributors require a minimum purchase due to international shipping costs and regulations.

If you ever get started building outdoor wood projects, you might be starting a great new hobby.  Your first experience using picnic table plans and drawings might lead you to other projects.  When you have plans and drawings to follow that are precise and well written, it is easy to build almost anything. 

I started building little things when I was younger I blame shop class.  I have always enjoyed building things, working on cars, and other DIY projects.  One thing I have learned when it comes to building projects is that a set of plans and drawings are valuable.  You can fake your way through some of the projects, but you have a greater sense of accomplishment, and pride when you know you built right, because you followed the plans.  Take something simple like a picnic table, a plan simple table.  You can probably build it without plans, but if you want an octagonal table, I suggest you get a set of octagon picnic table plans and drawings.  The octagonal table is a little more complicated and the plans will give you the correct angels needed to make it fit and look perfect, without mistakes, and guess work. 

An adjustable table is the same way, more complicated so I suggest a set of adjustable picnic table plans.  Plans will usually speed up the building process in several ways.  Plans usually have a materials list, so you know how many, and what dimensions of lumber you need.  They also have the angles figured out and given to you, so you don’t have to guess, or have problems fitting it all together once you are ready for assembly.

A good set of picnic table plans and drawings make it as easy to assemble as a pre-built table you can get from Wal-Mart or other stores.  The big difference is you know which one will last longer, and you know which one gives you a better sense of pride and accomplishment.

what kind of black paint to use when wanting to paint pine furniture?

Im wanting to paint a pine cabinet black. Not just a dull black, but the new semi-gloss black that the new, but looks old furniture. Ive seen this furniture in alot of different stores, like hobby lobby, craft stores, and furniture stores. Most of the furniture has sanded areas down the sides of the legs and around the corners of a table. Not sure to use just a plain black paint from lowes or do i need a high quality semi-gloss paint from a paint store.

The “Shabby Chic” look you’re talking about usually requires coats of different color paints before your final topcoat, of black in this case. That way, when you sand at the edges, you get the layers showing through. Although you can do it without the added colors if you want

You can use water-based or oil based paint for this type of painting – water-based is easier to deal with and clean up, but will definitely require a primer.
