library science degree texas

Did you or anyone you know get a master’s degree in library science at a Texas college?
If so, what school? Was it worth it? Was it hard to find a job?
My mom got her degree from the University of North Texas and a friend got theirs from Texas Woman’s University. Both are American Library Association accredited schools.
Mom had an easy time finding a job but the friend has a harder time and did not obtain a librarian job.
I think this is because the friend previously went to a private religious college for their undergraduate–and I am not sure about their curriculum as prep for library science graduate school.
Plus she wanted to be very selective about where/what environment she worked with material-wise.
A librarian is ethically obligated to handle all types of materials, including those which might be ‘controversial’. The American Library Association has a strong policy against censorship of library materials and access.
A school library can place individual students name on a do not check out list only if a specific parent is concerned about the content and not let them check it out, but it can’t remove a book or other materials from the entire library itself. The material has to remain in the library for other students whose parents do not object to check out.
This is where I believe my friend had the hard time. And it’s why she is probally having a hard time finding a job. She is a very nice person, but it’s a case of having selected the wrong profession for her individual personality/politics.

library science jobs california

With my background can I get a descent job?
I have a Bachelors degree in Accounting and a Masters in Library Science. (I have never worked as either an accountant or a librarian.) I also have a federal felony conviction, for which I served 5 months at a camp and 5 months house arrest. My offense was white collar and is two years old. My dream job would be to work as a librarian. I live in Southern California. Any good career advice would be appreciated.
Wow, a Bachelors and Masters degree…and you don’t know the difference between “descent” and “decent”….go figger.
