Museum and Archival management or Web Design?

Hey everyone. I was wondering if you could help me out.
I am just finishing up my university undergrad in Art History at the University of Guelph. I decided it would probably be a good thing if I took a college program, but I’m stuck on what program to take in the fall. It is a choice between Web Design at Fanshawe or Museum and Archival management at Fleming. Fleming is 4 hours away from home, which I’m not entirely comfortable with, plus I’m not too sure if I’ll even be able to find a job when I finish the course. I’ve been dabbling in web design since I was about 13, and in the 2 short classes I took at Guelph (Photoshop and Illustrator) I earned my highest marks ever.
I’m just wondering what path would you recommend. Is it just as hard to get into the Web Design industry as it is Museum management? what do you think would be the best to pursue??
Any feedback would be highly appreciated!

Because of the world’s economy, it’s a very difficult time to find a museum job. My daughter has a Master’s from one of the top art schools in the UK and hasn’t had much luck. I think you would do better looking for a job with a commercial enterprise

Sydney Or Melbourne?

Which city is better to live in, Sydney or Melbourne? Please take into consideration these questions:

1) My profession is a Diversional Therapist. Which city offers an abundance of career opportunities in my field? Which city has the largest Diversional Therapy Association? Which city’s association and/or members give a lot of support in the Diversional Therapy industry?

2) Which city has better inexpensive house prices and land prices in the suburbs? Which city provides more new home developments? Which city provides more housing options such as single family homes, townhomes and condos?

3) Which city has more ethnic diversity?

4) Which city has more culture such as performing arts, shopping, art museums, concerts, sports, festivals, cultural events, ect? Which city supports the arts more such as film, television, visual artist, performing artist, writers, ect?

5) Which city has better transportation system such as a subway and/or monorail? Does it travel to suburbs

1) I can’t answer this as I have no idea what a Diversional Therapist is. It seems to be something different from an Occupational Therapist, but I can’t find clear info on the differences. If it is something different, are you sure you will be able to come to Australia and work, as DT doesn’t appear on the list of required occupations for obtaining a work visa? My apologies if I’ve misunderstood your situation. If I haven’t, you should check out:

http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/index.htm

http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/a-z.htm#a

2) Sydney is by far the most expensive city in Australia for housing and land and is considerably more expensive than Melbourne, particularly in close to the CBD. Both cities would have a similar selection of housing options although Sydney may have more high rise apartment buildings (what I think you call ‘condos’), but Melbourne has them too.

3) Both cities have great ethnic diversity and regardless of your race or country of origin, you will be welcome in either.

4) Even though Sydney is larger than Melbourne, Melbourne has a far more solid reputation for being the cultural and sporting centre of Australia. There is probably more film and television production in Sydney, but in the other arts, Melbourne is the place to be.

5) Both cities have good public transportation systems which extend out into the suburbs. I’ve always found Melbourne’s public transport to be superior as they have a vast integrated network of trams (Sydney has no trams), trains and buses.

I don’t live in either city, but visit both several times a year for weeks at a time. Sydney is a great city, but I very much prefer Melbourne as a place to live. You didn’t mention it, but Melbourne is superb for dining out and IMO, is better than Sydney in that respect.

EDIT:
Some more investigation turned up job descriptions for Diversional Therapists so I now know what you do. Searches on our main job sites indicates that the opportunities are about even in the two cities as present.

Kanban, shop signs of Japan

$18.00

The Japanese kanban, literally “signboard,” is a folk art all its own. Its function-as a symbol and a service-maximizes the traditional arts of carpentry, calligraphy, and often of wood-carving and painting as well. The appeal of these signs is not only as bold and ingenious graphic design, but also as record of the commerce and tastes of the merchant classes in the Edo and Meiji Periods. This is …

Can I use the Federal Firearm License Curio statutes to buy new fully automatic weapons?

under the curio and relic portions of the licensing law the weapon must meet one of three criteria, 1. by manufactured 50 years ago 2. are certified by the curator of a museum 3. or and this is the kicker they are novel, rare, or bizarre, or because they have association with some figure, period, or event. Can I use this third portion to associate new weapons with films in order to purchase them? thanks for considering this possible loophole

No sorry that doesn’t classify as a loophole that allows you to buy new full autos. You either have to have a Class 3 FFL for the conducting of business or be purchasing for your law enforcement agency or the military. You would have to convince the ATF that some new full auto fell under that category, but so far nobody has.

Am I going to be where I want to with my HS GPA?

My current GPA is around a 3.67

I take honors courses and advanced placements too. I’m kinda scared because the person I rely on to help me on college stuff won’t tell me her HS GPA. I have no clue what GPA is good enough. I work really hard, I deserve to be where I want to in the future.

I do community service, I’m in leadership groups, and I have a volunteer position job at a children’s art museum.

I really want to go to an art school. I’m not sure what the average GPA is that colleges accept. I need to go to a university if not an art college. I’m deciding on majoring in Fashion design or Architecture or fine arts. I really want to be a designer someday, for a clothing brand or start my own business.

So Is my GPA good enough? ANy tips?

You really only need about a 2.5 GPA to get into art/design school.

Your GPA will definitely get you in to whatever art school you want
